Quick start for store owners
- Install GroupCart from the Shopify App Store and choose a plan. The GroupCart plan has a 30-day free trial.
- Open Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds.
- Turn on Group cart and click Save.
- Visit a product page on your live store. You’ll see a card under the buy buttons: “Shopping with friends?”
There’s nothing to code, and your theme isn’t edited.
Your dashboard and design settings
Where do I find my results?
In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → GroupCart. You’ll see the group carts started, how many became orders, the average group cart (shoppers, items and order value), the path from cart to order (started → items added → reached checkout → ordered), and group carts per day.
Why do I see carts but no sales or orders?
Sales and order values need order tracking. Turn it on from the GroupCart page. It is off by default, and without it you still see starts, items added, checkout steps and the orders the organizer confirmed, but not sales or order values. It counts only orders placed after it is turned on.
How do I change the colours or the button position?
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → Group cart and choose Design: Custom. There you can set the Button colors and Corners, the Card on product pages, the Cart panel buttons, and the Floating button and its Floating button position. Click Save when you’re done. Recommended puts everything back.
The button doesn’t match my theme.
GroupCart copies your “Add to cart” button by default. If it still looks off, set the colours and corners in the embed settings, or email us your theme name.
Can I preview my changes?
Yes. The theme editor shows a sample group cart with your own products while you edit.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see the group cart card or button
- Check that the Group cart app embed is on and that you saved it.
- Check that you turned it on in the published theme, not a copy.
- Check that your plan is active: open Apps → GroupCart in your Shopify admin.
- If your store has a password page, test as a visitor who has entered the password.
The card appears in the wrong place
In the theme editor, open a product page and add the Add to group cart block where you want it.
The button is missing in my theme’s quick-add pop-up
It appears there only where you’ve placed the GroupCart block. Add the block to that pop-up section.
Shoppers see “Can’t reach the group cart right now ”
This is usually a short interruption, and your store keeps working normally while it lasts. Try again in a minute. If it lasts longer, email us.
A group cart didn’t close after the order was placed
Turn on order tracking. Without it, the organizer is asked “Did you place the order?” and closes the cart by answering.
An item is greyed out
It sold out or became unavailable. It is left out of the checkout, and the organizer is told before paying.
A friend can’t join
- A cart holds up to 20 people and 100 different items.
- A shopper can be in one group cart per store at a time. Joining another moves them out of the first, and their items stay there. An organizer deletes their own cart first.
- Check that the link is complete. WhatsApp and email sometimes cut long links.
I lost my organizer link
Open the cart on the device where you started it. In Manage cart, choose Copy organizer link, and save it somewhere safe. It lets you manage the cart from another phone or computer.
Questions from store owners
Does GroupCart change my checkout, payments or taxes?
No. The organizer pays once, in your normal Shopify checkout. Payment, taxes, shipping and discounts are all Shopify’s own.
What does the order look like?
It’s one normal Shopify order. Each line shows Added by: [name], and the order is marked Group cart: [cart name].
Does it work with my theme?
It works with modern and older themes, with no code changes. If something looks off, email us the theme name.
What does GroupCart see about my customers?
Only the display names shoppers type into a cart. Order tracking, if you turn it on, reads only GroupCart’s own mark on an order and the order’s total and currency. It never reads customer names, addresses, emails or phone numbers.
What does it cost?
The GroupCart plan is $9.99 every 30 days or $99 a year, with a 30-day free trial. Billing goes through Shopify, on your Shopify invoice, so GroupCart never sees payment details. You can change or cancel your plan in the Shopify admin: open GroupCart and choose Manage plan.
What happens if I cancel or uninstall?
Uninstalling cancels your plan. After a plan ends, existing group carts stay visible for 7 days, but new ones can’t be started. When you uninstall, your store’s group carts are deleted.
Which languages are supported?
English only for now. Other languages and right-to-left layouts are planned.
Questions from shoppers
What is a group cart?
One shared cart that friends, family or colleagues fill together on one store. One person, the organizer, checks out for everyone.
Do I need an account?
No. You only type a name, with no email, phone or password.
Can I change other people’s items?
You can change or remove only your own items. The organizer can change anything.
Is my own cart affected?
No. The group cart is separate from your regular cart on the store.
How long is my information kept?
A cart nobody touched for 30 days is deleted, including the names in it. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Can I split the payment?
No. The organizer pays once.
Who do I contact about my order?
The store you bought from. They handle delivery and returns. Email us about the group cart itself.
